Coaching for the Long Run

Alex S 446 Promo -7-small

Looking to reach your next running goal?

Whether that’s your first marathon, reaching a new PB, or building a healthy relationship with running: I’m here to support you.

You don’t need to be fast, experienced, or chasing a podium place. I work with runners of all levels to become more confident, consistent and resilient: because happy runners perform better.

Like most runners, I’ve faced the frustration of setbacks along the way. From injuries and Long Covid to struggles with eating disorders and mental ill health, I understand how life can get in the way. Having been coached myself since 2022, I know how important a good coaching relationship can be in those situations.

Many coaches focus on the physical aspect of performance and neglect the connection between brain and body. With a UESCA Ultra-Running Coach certification and a Diploma in Integrative Coaching, I combine practical support and training plans with mindset to understand your ‘why’, stay motivated and pick yourself back up when things don’t go to plan.

Now based in the Lake District, I’m often found running in the local fells (and often falling over…)

Some of my proudest running highlights include:

  • Fastest person to run & cycle all 446 UK mountains – 3,000km in 45 days (2025)
  • Fastest person to climb all 100 UK county tops by human power – 5,000 miles in 72 days
  • Running the National Three Peaks challenge – 452 miles in 9 days 12 hours
  • Self-supported Bob Graham Round – 27:35 (2021)
  • The Lakes, Meres & Waters, 105 miles – 32:09 (2022)
  • The Frog Graham Round – 16:57 (2023)
  • 2nd overall – 7 Valleys Ultra (2023)
  • 2nd overall – Grizedale Marathon (2025)
  • 4th overall – 5 Valleys Ultra (2025)
  • 2:54 marathon – Chester (2018)
  • 1:20 half marathon – Warrington (2018)
  • 16:28 5km – Lancaster (2026)

With my surname, I do have an unfortunate habit of finishing fourth in races… But I firmly believe that times and results don’t define us. I’m passionate about supporting the underdog and helping every runner achieve their own version of success.

Client feedback

“With careful and active listening, Alex constructively challenged me on my thinking and deeply held views I’ve carried for a long time, in a kind and patient way. Having focused time to reflect and move forward on my mindset to try to be more kind to myself (my goal) in doing what I have capacity for, while negotiating competing priorities left me feeling more in control, more at peace and with some steps to take to make small and focused improvements for myself. I’m so grateful for those hours to help me build a sustainable foundation for not only surviving but thriving as much as possible too”

Fiona

“Since working with Alex, he has provided exceptional guidance and encouragement. What began as an initial block of sessions has since evolved into nearly twelve months of consistent coaching, during which he has supported me through the professional challenges I anticipated—and many I hadn’t expected. His thoughtful, honest approach and steady positivity have made a significant difference.”

Andrew

“Alex has helped me think through my mindset around my big adventures, including the Winter Spine. His coaching style is very focused on the individual and what they need rather than taking a one size fits all approach. He got real insights that helped my resilience in the face of successes and failures and I would absolutely recommend him for those challenging their limits and wanting to be thoughtful about that.”

Alice

“I started working with Alex earlier this year, and his coaching has been incredibly impactful. His coaching style is really intuitive, I feel like he always knows how to meet me where I am. Because of that, I’ve already achieved so much more than I expected in this time. The fact that he is also a really nice guy with a wealth of experience in the very fields I’m pursuing (mountaineering and long-distance running), is a great bonus. Alex can always relate to my pain points, from injuries to loss of motivation to life getting in the way – which makes me feel that whatever stage I’m at is valid and normal.”
